Accessibility FAQs

These are some of the important accessibility faqs about Ananyoo Accessibility Services and Accessibility Ready Themes.
What is Ananyoo all about?

In the First Accessibility FAQs, I have answered all about the Ananyoo services we offer. We help individuals or organizations to make accessible websites by developing them from scratch using our Accessibility Ready Ananyoo Theme. The advantage of using our Accessibility Ready Theme is that the framework is already compliant as it goes through various testing phases and has already fixed all necessary accessibility barriers, which in turn helps build a website with speed so that it gets delivered very fast.

That doesn’t mean that we won’t be using any other theme as recommended by the client. We can work on any available theme in the marketplace and make it compliant. The only thing is that once the site is ready to go live, we will do a thorough Audit and then remediation of the website to make it accessible, and this process will take some extra time to complete the accessibility project.

We get involved as you need throughout your website project lifecycle, from purchasing your domain to hosting and then creating a wireframe, designing UI/UX, integrating it with any chosen platform, populating content, performing both Automated and Manual Audits as part of the accessibility verification process, making it live, generating VPAT, Optimizing website for better performance.

Along the courses of development phases, we’ll also teach you on how to meet relevant web accessibility benchmarks like the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines 2.1 (WCAG). You’ll come to know that making accessible websites is not as hard or as technical as you think.

Is WCAG applicable to mobile apps?

Yes. WCAG is applicable to mobile apps. WCAG applies to digital information like text, images, audio, videos, and code or markup.

Do I need an accessibility statement?

Accessibility statements may be legally required depending on your region. Beyond that, accessibility statements clearly communicate to users the state of your content’s accessibility, provide users with a way to get in touch with any accessibility issues, and show that you care about them. For this reason, we highly recommend including an accessibility statement.

Is VPAT mandatory?

VPAT compliance is 100% necessary should you wish to enter into a contract with a federal agency that requires Section 508 compliance. However, other organizations and businesses can demonstrate their dedication and commitment to web accessibility by filling out a VPAT, as well.

What is the cost of developing accessible sites?

On average, ADA compliance services costs will vary depending on your website size, current compliance, and more. Making your website accessible comes down 1) an audit and 2) remediation. An accessibility audit is where one or more technical experts manually examine your website and looks for accessibility issues under WCAGr 2.1 AA. Remediation is where someone implements the necessary changes so that your website complies with WCAG 2.1 AA. If your website has less to audit/fix, your quote will be lower. Conversely, if your website contains a swamp of accessibility issues, the price will increase. There are several factors that determine your price. These factors are discussed below.

1) The current state of the website?

  • Number of unique pages/layouts
  • Is this a complete makeover situation or just a few fixes here and there?
  • Do third-party integrations need to be replaced?

2) How interactive and dynamic a website is?

  • Does it have forms?
  • Is registration required?
  • Is there a checkout?
  • Are live, real-time elements in play?

3) How much manual work is involved?

  • How many images need alt text added?
  • How much media needs text transcripts and/or closed captioning?
  • Do PDFs need to be remediated or converted into web pages?
What other benefits are achieved by implementing websites in compliance with accessibility guidelines?
  • Increased website traffic: Businesses need to realize that an accessible website will provide equal access to those with physical deformities, cognitive impairments, and ordinary people. So by letting everyone visit and use their site, their traffic rates naturally increase with time.
  • Reduced risk of legal complications: With the high and more challenging legal requirements regarding web accessibility, optimizing your site for people with disabilities makes good business sense. Ensuring your site meets your industry’s specific accessibility standards reduces the risks of facing legal complications and possible prosecution.
  • Better Usability: Web accessibility not only makes your website accessible by disabled users but also improves your website’s overall usability and user experience.
  • Improved website SEO: Everyone knows how getting a high SERP ranking helps improve your website’s online visibility. And with SEO goals and web accessibility methods being pretty much aligned, your accessible web design kills two birds with one stone!
  • Improves your brand reputation: Another benefit of an accessible website is that it helps build your brand’s reputation. And if you wonder why and how, it is mainly because having a website that everyone cannot access is equivalent to telling your visitors to stay away!
  • Better user journey leading to more conversions: An accessible website streamlines your visitors’ journey by guiding them to find what they are looking for while maintaining an optimal user experience.
Which colors are best to use in the accessible design?

The contrast between colors or backgrounds is more important than which colors your design uses. Also, color alone should not be used to convey information. Avoid flashing elements with saturated reds. You can generate an accessible color palette in seconds. Take the mystery out of accessibility with a simple color palette generator that does the heavy lifting for you.
