Why now

When a WordPress site needs accessibility work

WordPress runs a large share of the web, so it also receives a large share of the accessibility complaints. Four situations bring site owners to us, and if one of them is yours, the work below is the fastest way out of it.

A demand letter has arrived

Order of work

What a WordPress owner should fix first

Fix in the order a visitor meets the barriers, not in the order an automated scanner prints them. This is the sequence we follow on every WordPress remediation.

1. The path to the enquiry or sale

Navigation, the main call to action, the form or the checkout behind it. Keyboard operation, real labels, visible focus and announced errors first, because this is the journey that earns the business.

2. Theme and pattern level fixes

Menus, sliders, tabs, accordions and cards are corrected once in the theme or block pattern, so the fix travels to every page that uses them instead of being repeated by hand.

3. Content, media and the editorial rules

Alternative text worth reading, headings in a sensible order, contrast at 4.5:1, link text that makes sense alone, and a short written rule set so your editors keep it that way.

4. Small screens and zoom

The same journeys at 200% and 400% zoom and on a phone with TalkBack or VoiceOver, where most first visits now happen.

Three questions before you decide

Can you fix my existing theme, or do I need a new one?

Most sites are remediated in place. We fix the theme templates, the block patterns and the plugin output your site already uses, so your design and your content stay exactly as they are. A rebuild is only worth suggesting when the theme is abandoned, or when a page builder has produced markup that cannot be repaired without touching every page.

Will an accessibility plugin or overlay make my site compliant?

No. A toolbar that changes font size and colours does not turn a div into a button, label a form field, manage focus in your pop-up or write meaningful alternative text. Overlays are one reason many sites still receive demand letters after paying for “compliance”. Our own free plugins are different in kind: they replace a broken component with a correct one rather than painting over it.

What do I receive at the end?

A written audit report with screenshots, severity, WCAG 2.2 references and the fix for every issue; the remediated theme and plugin code; a re-test after the changes; an honest accessibility statement for your footer; and a VPAT where a buyer asks for one.

Ariade Companion - header, menu and sitemap

WordPress theme rules do not let a theme carry its own blocks, so these live in a small plugin instead: the accessible drop-down menu header, the header actions, the auto-populated sitemap and LinkedIn-friendly link previews. Keep it active - your header needs it. After activating, press “Use the Ariade header” in the notice on the Themes screen.
